Welcome!

If you've found your way here, you are likely a poetry bud yourself — a friend of poetry, or someone with a budding interest in poems, who is curious and craving more. We're glad you are here!

Poetry Buds began as a way to celebrate National Poetry Month by sharing 30 of our favorite poets.

After this initial spring sprint of daily posts, we will continue in a (mostly) weekly rhythm. We will showcase poets and explore other facets of poetry.

Hopefully, Poetry Month will become Poetry Year, and eventually— together— a Poetry Life.

We would love to hear from you! After each post, we will spend some time in the chat, discussing poets and poetry.

More about us

We are two decades-long friends who love poetry. We read it, write it, snack on it, share it, step into its sauna when life is winter-cold.

We met in a newsroom years ago, fresh out of college. Over the years, we have been roomies, besties, and pen pals. Sometimes we lose touch, but we always reconnect.

Brianne lives in the Hudson Valley of New York. She's an editor, writer, and artist who is fascinated by how we live well in our astonishing human bodies. She writes the Odyssey of the Body newsletter and runs Winter Camp and other gatherings. Poetry was a mystifying realm to her for many years, but over time, she’s discovered more poems that feel illuminating rather than opaque. She believes that, like music, poetry is for everyone— it’s only a matter of finding poems that connect with you.

Jenny lives near the mountains of Idaho with her family. She was a third-culture kid and then an avid traveler in her 20s, and has worked as an editor, an ESL teacher, and ESL program director. She is currently a stay-at-home mom who spends most of her time packing and unpacking the same lunch box, finding socks in unlikely places all over the house, and trying to stabilize her blood pressure every time she volunteers for Recess Duty. She is active in online writing groups, enjoys being a peer editor, and loves to help new writers develop their ideas and confidence. Poems have been some of her best friends since early childhood.

Subscribe if you would like more poetry in your life. We would be delighted to have you!

P.S. We are also accepting submissions for any poetry buds who might want to write with us— either to showcase a poet they love, or to share their own poetry.
